“Chambers creates views imbued with mysterious beauty, which form a link both poetic and technical…which belong to the realm of alchemy.”

- Cyrille Sciama, Directeur général, Musée des impressionnismes Giverny

Silver photography

This is a short documentary film about me and my journey into wet plate collodion photography.

Much like the tintype and ambrotype plates themselves, my journey began and developed in the darkness. Along the road, I have been joined by some extraordinary, like-minded ragamuffins who have been hugely influential in making my dream a reality. I have been lucky enough to be taught and mentored by the wet plate magician, my collodion brother, Dave Shrimpton.

And then there's David Ummels and Jock Pettitt from Art for Guernsey; two people who saw the raw work of a prodigal photographer and were willing to give him the opportunity of a lifetime. This year, I have been very proud to share the journey with Art for Guernsey in celebrating a number of Renoir’s paintings from his stay in Guernsey, which are returning to Guernsey this September.

As part of this collaboration, I am thrilled to say that I am currently an exhibiting artist at the Musée des impressionnismes Giverny, and soon to be at Art for Guernsey andGuernsey Museums.

This short film gives a glimpse into the process used to capture the plates to be exhibited this September.

My sincere thanks go to Warren Mauger and all at Spike Productions who believed in what I do enough to want to capture this remarkable process and for their generosity and empathic directing of this film.

Thank you all, my words fall short in doing justice to how grateful I am.
